puzzling | PICARATS 020 [VIDEO/ACTION IN SAFFRON CITY]

[ So, guess who has just found out that today is the best fucking day ever? Really, do you know what day it is today? Do you? ]

[ ...no, it's not just a Sunday, nor is it just January 29th. Gosh, get your head straight, good man and woman, and go look at your calender again!! You know why? Because, it's National Puzzle Day!! ]

[ As most people who know the Professor, they will notice very quickly that he's quite the fanatic about puzzles, so really, this day is just mindblowingly awesome. He will even use the word "cool" for this day. So y'know what, he is totally jumping on this obscure holiday and rolling with it. ]

Earlier this morning, it has been brought to my attention that today is National Puzzle Day. We certainly do not have anything like this back in London in my time period, so it will be splendid if I may celebrate this day with a few others.

For this special occasion, I will be doubling the amount of picarats rewarded for each puzzle solved. Along with that, you may redeem your picarats for prizes and I will send them out shortly after with my Pokemon. Please do not hesitate to ask me any questions or concerns. I have quite the number of puzzles behind me so we may do this all day.

Here is my first puzzle, worth 10 picarats to start things off easy:

"Behold is the glorious Eiffel Tower, standing over 1,000 feet tall. It's a massive monument to Paris, but there is a way to make the entire structure vanish before your eyes by using nothing by two coins.

How does one accomplish this feat?"

(( ooc: bringing back the picarat system that Layton has been using since he got here! The higher the amount of picarats, the harder the puzzle is. When you get an answer wrong, your picarats will decrease by a small amount and whenever you solve it, that's the amount of picarats you get. Layton has a bunch of prizes from food to toys to clothes to whatever, so solve solve solve for free things!! ))

Indeed, you are correct. With only two coins, there's not much more you can do to make the Eiffel Tower disappear so easily. [ Give Layton a few seconds to just write down in his notebook the picarats won next to Big Luke's name. ] Perhaps you would like to test your skill at a much harder puzzle, my boy?

[99 PICARATS-- or I guess 198 since they're doubled today... SO YEAH, 198-PICARAT PUZZLE, LET'S GO.]

Haha, if you're sure, then here you are. This one is worth 99 picarats;

"You are trapped in a room with no windows, doors, or any exits. The walls are ten feet thick and there is no one to help you. The only things in the room is a mirror and a table. How do you escape?"

[ SOLVE IT AND MAKE THE PROFESSOR PROUD ]

[There's a moment of silence as Clive mulls over the puzzle, trying to think of possible solutions, but he... can't... The only thing he can think of is that there's no way to escape at all, but no, that's too simple of an answer. It wouldn't be worth 99 picarats if it was that easy. Man, he's usually really damn good at puzzles, but this one...

His confidence visibly starts to diminish, but nope, he's not going to call it quits. He'd look like an idiot if he backed out now, plus he has a reputation to keep up.

Soon his concentration is broken by his Blissey happily walking up to Clive and handing him a plate of fried eggs, made from Grace's very own eggs. He gives her a smile as he takes the plate. Such a talented little Blissey!!]

Oh, thank you, Grace.

[She returns the smile and glances at Clive's PokéGear, nearly double taking when she sees her old trainer on the screen. Then her smile grows even wider and she shouts happily, waving frantically to Layton. PROFESSAAAAHHHH]

[ Layton is just sitting here at this cafe with his cup of tea, so take your time, Clive. He has his journal with him too, so he can write in it while waiting for an answer. However, he looks up when Clive speaks and ahhhh, GRAAAAAAAAACE. SO GOOD TO SEE HIS POKEMON AGAIN. He gives a small wave back. ]

Good to see you again, Grace. I trust that you are not being a hassle to Luke. [ Of course not, because his Blissey is such a good girl, isn't she? And turning his attention to Clive now. ] Would you like a hint for your puzzle, Luke?

[Grace nods and disappears again for a moment to get a plastic fork and knife for Clive to eat the eggs with. Yup, no fancy silverware since they're on the road right now. Then she sits down near Clive and motions for him to start eating. Gotta make sure he doesn't starve himself in the wilderness!!]

I suppose a hint wouldn't hurt.

[And Clive will start eating those eggs while Layton tells him that hint.]

[ Gosh, those eggs look good. Layton kinda misses when he has eaten those. Maybe he should order some eggs... ]

Then here is your first hint; do not try to solve this puzzle logically. You will have to truly think in a different way to find the solution.

[Oh god. That is one of the hardest things for Clive to do. He's alllll about the logic. He continues to ponder as he eats his eggs, but nope, he's still got nothing... At least his mood seems to be improving greatly, thanks to the side effects of eating Blissey eggs.]
