Picarat 007 [VIDEO/ACTION IN VIOLET CITY]

[So, the festival is now over and everything around the cities is being cleaned up. The booths has been placed away and the confetti on the ground being swept away. It looks just like what most finished festivals looked like. It even has that usual feeling of nostalgia when you just look around, just thinking about that amazing event. Of course, everything is back to normal, but guess who is still running that little puzzle booth of his?

Professor Layton, that's who!

Well, it is not much of a booth as much as it is just an empty green bench with no one but himself sitting on it. He has returned all the tables and desks he borrowed from the school, and has been now reduced to only claiming the bench next to the Pokemon Center. At least three paper bags is sitting by his feet and a Noctowl perching itself on the bench with him. For those who might remember his Hoothoot, 10 picarats if you can guess who this Noctowl is. It actually has evolved on Halloween when fending off those glitches, but it never left its Pokeball for everyone to see until today. Doesn't it look so much wiser? What a fitting Pokemon to its trainer!

The Professor positions the Pokegear on the empty space of the bench, making sure it is set perfectly, the video shaking around for a few seconds. He nods once he has it set up perfectly. He clears his throat once.]

Hello to all out there. I do hope that everyone had enjoyed the festival. It was quite the event, was it not?

[He waits a few seconds almost as if waiting for a response, but continues.]

Well, for those who came across my puzzle booth in Violet City, I would like thank you very much for visiting. It had greatly overjoyed me to see people interested. I had handed out many puzzles, tea, and picarats during those three days. I am also glad that some people had taken their picarats and exchanged them for prizes, however, it does seem that I have quite a lot of items left over.

[He pans the camera towards the bags at the ground for a few seconds before positioning it back at him.]

I will now offer this chance to those who are in different cities or those who had not exchanged their picarats yet in Violet City to do so. As you may see, my Hoothoot here seemed to have grown quite strong and larger into a Noctowl. Isn't that correct, Walter?

[The Noctowl spreads its wings and gives off a cry. Awww yeah, look how awesome it is now. It seems very proud of itself. The Professor just chuckles.]

For those who have solved my puzzles before but are located other than Violet City, please, select what prize you may want to receive and my Pokemon here will deliver it to you by flying over there. Do not worry about Walter. He has actually offered to deliver the prizes around, so he will be quite fine. It seems as good training for him from his point of view, haha.

For those still in Violet City and would like to exchange their picarats for the prizes, I am located outside the Pokemon Center. Please, do come for a visit. I have some tea that anyone may like to sip with me.

[And when he means sip tea, he means it. It seems like he overbought everything again...But back on topic!]

My prizes here consist of the usual potions, pokeballs, and other supplies. It is mainly what you find in the markets. It may not stand against what Goldenrod's department store might have, but I do hope that I can provide something as a "thank you" for solving all of my puzzles. Unfortunately, I am afraid I cannot deliver the heavier prizes such as the articles of clothing I may have, so my apologizes.

If you have a flying-type Pokemon with you that would rather pick up the prize, that will be quite fine. I am sure that Walter cannot travel all over the place forever.

[The Noctowl stares at the Professor before flying over and sitting right on his hat. Commence flailing! Oh my good Heavens, you are heavy. GET OFF OH MY LORD MY NECK IT'S GONNA BREAK I NEED THIS TO SOLVE PUZZLES AND GO OUT TO DINNER WITH CLAIRE AND FRIENDS OH MY LORD FFFFFFFFFF-- oh hey, it got off after a few seconds of flailing and chuckles and apologizes. He straightens his hat onto his hat once again and clears his throat.]

B-But yes, if you do have a flying-type, it is more than welcome to pick up the prizes itself. Perhaps it will be strong enough to actually carry the heavier prizes? Please, do not hesitate to ask what prizes I may have and if anyone out there is interested in solving more puzzles to earn more picarats, please do ask. I will not be running out anytime soon, so newcomers are also quite welcome! Actually, I have a puzzle I would like someone to solve, so please do give it a try for those who want to:

"A man was found murdered on a Sunday morning. His wife immediately called the police and they questioned the wife and the staff. These were the alibis:

The Wife was asleep.
The Chef was cooking breakfast.
The Gardener was picking vegetables.
The Maid was getting the mail.
The Butler was cleaning out the closet.

Just from these alibis, the police instantly knew who the was the murderer and arrested him or her. Who was it and how did they know?"

[Ciel's just found a new best friend so to speak(as long as he doesn't actually have to be friendlly) Puzzles and other mind teasers are something he quite delights in. He appears on screen smug and amused.]

Your riddle is is quite elementary and simple, but fun. It's been the most entertaining thing I've come across since I arrived here.

The culprit in this instance would have to be the maid, as, at least where I'm from, the mail doesn't arrive on Sundays.

[He glances aside and mutters to himself] though if it were my maid she'd probably forget the mail did not come on Sundays.

Ha ha... it has been awhile since I've been faced with a puzzle other than the one surrounding Johto. Alright, Professor-- I accept your challenge.

[ classic thinking pose is go. he doesn't take too long, however; it's a relatively simple riddle. ]

The maid must be the murderer, then. Because she wouldn't have any reason to go out to the mailbox, right? [You grin is being happily mimicked, Professor! Phoenix needs some time to unwind, what with all the bullcrap happening recently.]

... Is that the best you've got, Professor? It's obvious that the answer is 'the maid'. After all, post has never run on a Sunday.

I'm at-- choo! [A suppressed sneeze, and Edgeworth pulls his jacket around him tighter.]

[It might be around this time that Layton notices that the boy is whispering. As if he's hiding from something.]

[She blushes brightly when he mentions that Luke is his assistant. Ahhh Luke's gentleman ways make her blush; she's really not very used to people being nice to her. She adjusts her eyepatch slightly.] U-um, I spoke with both, but the older one is, um. He helped me when my Metapod pinned me...and we talked about London and Japan, and things like that.

[Tea does sound amazing. She listens to the explanation and nods, hesitating slightly. Tea does sound really good... ]

...Um. Would you mind if I came to see you? I don't want to bother you...

[Hm...This isn't a puzzle that the Professor had heard before, but he thinks about it. This is rather a hard puzzle...He thinks about it for a couple of minutes and he doesn't get back to France until about five minutes later when he thinks he got the answer.]

I believe that the more likely chance of staying alive is to shoot the gun. From what we just learned from that empty shot, there are three more empty rounds to go for. Spinning the barrel will just increase the chance of landing on a round with a bullet. That is my answer.

Ah, yes, older Luke. He is quite the gentleman. I am very pleased at how he grew up. It is wonderful to hear that you are acquaintances with him.

[He shakes his head.]

Not at all. There is only one murderer in this case as no one was collaborating. Consider that the police arrived at the house and questioned the wife and staff as soon as they got there. They do not know the cause of death for the man, what vegetables they have in the garden, what the chef cooked, all they know is their alibis and what day it is. Perhaps that will help.

You are quite correct, Mr. Wright! On a Sunday, with no mail delivered, what is the point of head to the mailbox to check? Quite the mistake on the behalf of the maid, so it seems.

[The Professor writes down the won amount of picarats next to Phoenix's name in his notebook neatly.]

Haha, alright then. Here is my first hint: please consider the fact that the officers instantly knew only after hearing their alibis. They do not know how the man died, what time this happened, or anything. As soon as they heard the alibis from the suspects, they knew who it was. Why is that? It is something to ponder about.

[Ah, Shelly was just walking by and he couldn't help but to overhear the puzzle. After suppressing the urge to ask, you know, HOW the man was murdered (it's always interesting to know!), he approaches Layton with a smile.]

It was the Maid. There should be no mail on a Sunday. [And there's actually some amusement in his smile.] A terrible alibi, really..

[And the Professor does notice. Hm...that's the kind of tone he normally gets when he taught the children back at the school and when around in London...]

Hm, is that so? How is it that you are not exactly traveling together, my boy? [Well, the Professor would just have to drag out the truth little by little as he can!]

H-he's very nice. [more blushing. She turns the gear off then, flustered by the politeness and wondering how she's going to survive this meeting.

She's there within minutes, hovering awkwardly at a respectful distance from him, waiting to be acknowledged and wondering if it's really okay] U-um...?

We used to tell each other these kinds of riddles all the time in law school. _{I still remember most of them...} [A chuckle.] I think I'll keep mine for now.

Why are you so interested in puzzles?

Wright tends to wander off without warning sometimes, and Mr. Apollo and I - we thought we would play detective, and the idea was to follow him.... turns out that he went quite far, so we've been camping out here while still hiding from him.

Haha, I am glad to hear that my puzzles are entertaining. It is rather good to hear, and you are quite correct, Mr. Phantomhive. On a Sunday, there is no mail delivery, so the maid would have no reason to go check the mailbox. Critical thinking is the key to success.
